Briefing.com on PHCM ...
Phone.com (PHCM) 116 3/16: Last week, Briefing.com issued a bullish report on the long-term outlook for PHCM... Since that report that stock took a hit largely due to jitters over expiration of lock-up period... Well, with the company having released 38 mln shares from lock-up yesterday, maybe investors will now begin to focus on the company's underlying story...And due to a couple of nice deals in the past week, Briefing.com maintains that the long-term outlook has only improved... Monday, the company announced that it was paying $850 in stock to acquire privately held Onebox.com... Onebox.com's technology, which allows its 2.5 mln registered users to retrieve their email, voicemail and faxes from their wireless device, makes a nice fit for PHCM as it broadens its product base thereby sheltering it from any potential changes in the Wireless Applications Protocol (WAP) standard... Company also announced an alliance with MyEvents.com... Using PHCM's built-in UP.Browser microbrowser for mobile phones, MyEvents.com users will gain universal access to their personal and group tools, messaging, news headlines, stock portfolio, etc. when they are away from their computers... Finally, PHCM agreed agreed to acquire Paragon resides in PCs to be used by cell phones and other hand-held electronic devices... While rash of deals also helps to explain stocks recent weakness (integration issues), Briefing.com applauds PHCM for using its stock to aggressively pursue strategic acquisitions that better position the company to remain the leading player in its industry... Stock remains confined to its recent trading range... As long as 100 floor holds (stock bounced back sharaply from yesterday's low of 108 1/4, long-term outlook remains decidedly bullish... Still expect stock to test its old high of $175, with penetration resulting in an intermediate- to long-term run at the $200 area. -- RW
