China Curbs Internet Firms' Overseas Registration, Paper Says Beijing, Feb. 17 China won't allow local
Internet companies to register abroad unless they have received
explicit government approval beforehand, the Hong Kong-based Wen
Wei Po newspaper reported, citing an unnamed Chinese official. In
another move to strengthen its control of the flow of information
over the Internet, the government won't allow Internet companies
to distribute news from overseas media, the official said. The
government will also prevent Internet companies that are not
designated as news organizations from collecting and publishing
their own news stories, according to the China-leaning newspaper.
China recently said local Internet companies must obtain
approval before they can list abroad.
