wee willy

Does anyone have any idea why Intel hasn't spilled the beans on Willy yet?

And why is Intel telling to AVOID a certain instruction - a certain one supposedly frequently used with the Pentium and P6 processors - with Willy?

Why is the only real info released about Willy the SSE 2 info? It seems to me Intel needs this to achieve the super high performance Tench is talking about. But I have no idea for sure because Intel doesn't have the guts to spill the beans on the innards of Willy this early.

From what we DO know about Willy -

it will only use DRDRAM inintially. Yep, Intel bets another product line on RamBUST RAM. Why were they smart enough to make Timna SDRAM compatible? Let me guess, either they are hoping DRDRAM prices fall enough just for Willy, or they are hoping people won't care about price, or those warrants to buy RMBS really cheap are looking mighty good to them.

Intel is heavily promoting SSE 2. Do they need it to significantly outperform Cumine? I wonder if Intel's new compiler supports the new SSE instructions.

it runs fast.

And that is about all we know about Willy from Intel. Again, why doesn't Intel have the guts to spill the beans on Willy's innards? What are they so afraid of?

This Willy info-session Intel had in California seems to be all HYPE and no substance except for the demo.
