Great article.. very enjoyable. I'm glad Jon Markman has a good job because he is smart. Its funny though because I have friends that are doing these sort of scans for up to 10 years (really!) and I've done them a little more tuned for about 5. It seems that finally the analysts or commentators are getting a view of the reality of this market. Investor's Business Daily has been head & shoulders ahead of any mutual fund or analyst and it is only now... 5 years later that the mutual funds are finally giving us some choices and stocks that are really moving up and not throwing the same junk at us.. year after year. So what happens? The mutual funds give us three figures in 1999, I don't think it was really the market that changed, I just think the stock picking came out of the ice age. I don't expect them to go on with 3 digit gains because they would have to churn their portfolios too much so I would not depend on that in the near future. They spend a lot printing up those research reports and they have to 'push' the stocks to make up the money. So inevitably the mutual funds will most likely sink to their original "careful and cautious" and not so very profitable methods.

Sometimes there is someone like this guy from MSN (where else?) with some good ideas.
