S Korea's SK Telecom In Alliance With
China Unicom

SEOUL -- South Korea's leading mobile phone service provider SK Telecom
Co. (SKM) said Thursday it has entered a strategic alliance with China
Unicom, China's second largest telecom company.

Under the contract, SK Telecom and China Unicom will cooperate in
developing technology for the next-generation mobile phone service,
International Mobile Telecommunications for 2000, or IMT-2000, as well as
mutually cooperate in advancing into overseas markets.

Both companies will also jointly design new CDMA networks and share
know-how in marketing and consulting, the South Korean company said.

At 0448 GMT (11:48 p.m. EST Wednesday), shares of SK Telecom were
down 500,000 won ($1=KRW1,124) at KRW4.15 million on volume of
11,280 shares.
