You can buy them through Schwab, and probably any large U.S. firm. I don't know how it works with other firms but if you are buying $10,000 or more Schwab can buy them on the London Exchange, where the spread is tighter. On purchases of less than $10,000 they use a market maker in New York. The order is placed through Schwab's Global Investing Service.
