Signal Technology Arizona Operation Awarded Raytheon Oscillator Contract

DANVERS, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 17, 2000--Signal Technology Corporation (AMEX: STZ) today announced that it has won a contract award for microwave oscillators from Raytheon Systems Company in Tucson, Arizona, valued at $276,320. This award is in support of Low Rate Initial Production for the Brilliant Antiarmor (BAT) Submunition Program with scheduled delivery beginning in March 2000. The award follows Signal Technology Corporation's developmental award/delivery for the oscillator used in the Seeker assembly. The company estimates that future contracts for production hardware could exceed $4 million.

"This contract confirms our commitment to strengthening our core defense business by winning programs that offer significant full rate production potential," said Signal Technology Arizona Operation president, Gene L. Joles.

The Brilliant Antiarmor Submunition uses passive acoustic and infrared sensors to find, attack and destroy moving tanks and other armored vehicles deep in enemy territory. BAT plays a major role as a precision strike weapon in the current U.S. national defense strategy, which addresses the potential of multiple regional conflicts. BATs will be carried into hostile territory by the Army tactical missile system (Army TACMS Block II missile) for "many-on-many" attacks against massed moving armor.

The BAT concept has proven successful during testing conducted in 1998 against tanks and armored personnel carrier targets. Once all testing is successfully completed, BAT could be fielded as early as the fall of 2000.
