MTI's Vivant Storage Server With Simultaneous SAN and NAS Support to Showcase at CeBIT

ANAHEIM, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 17, 2000--MTI Technology Corp. (Nasdaq:MTIC) announced that it will showcase its Vivant(TM) enterprise storage servers at CeBIT, the largest technology-oriented tradeshow in the world, Feb. 24 through March 1, in Hannover, Germany.

CeBIT will be the first opportunity for Europeans to experience the scalability, modularity and versatility of MTI's Vivant servers, which are designed to meet the high-availability, data-intensive requirements for corporate customers and Internet-related businesses.

"As the world's largest computer show, CeBIT is a great opportunity for the leading European industrial companies and Internet-related business to see MTI solutions firsthand in a side-by-side comparison with the competition," said Gary Scott, senior vice president and general manager for MTI Europe. "We are proud to be able to showcase MTI's Vivant storage servers.

"We will demonstrate how the Vivant simultaneously incorporates storage area network (SAN) and network attached storage (NAS) connectivity. We will also highlight the company's recently announced support for Linux, which is gaining tremendous acceptance in Europe."

MTI's CeBIT presentations will feature a Vivant 30 enterprise storage server configured with 1.2TB of disk storage capacity and the full range of MTI's DataServices -- a package of strategically integrated hardware and software resources developed to minimize challenges often encountered in today's complex enterprise storage environments.

Visitors to MTI's booth 7m14 in Hall One will find several of MTI's recent innovations in enterprise storage technology, including:

-- Simultaneous SAN and NAS Connectivity

MTI is the first vendor to deliver SAN and NAS functionality in a

single storage server. The Vivant 30 incorporates both SAN-based

Block Services to store data in native OS formats and File

Services to store data at a logical file level for access by NFS

and CIFS clients in a NAS environment.

-- Linux Support

MTI's Vivant servers support the major Linux releases, including

Caldera OpenLinux and Red Hat. Linux is increasingly the OS of

choice for Internet-related businesses that make up MTI's fastest

growing customer base. The CeBIT demo will feature the Vivant 30

running MTI's DataShield(TM) volume mapping software to partition

the 1.2 TB Vivant volume into three logical units, each dedicated

to separate Linux, Solaris and Windows NT servers that can access

the centralized storage resources simultaneously.

-- Replication Services

Using MTI's powerful DataSentry(TM) software, the storage volumes

on the Vivant 30 server will be replicated to duplicate Vivant

servers located in MTI's demo centers in Wiesbaden, Germany (300

miles away) and in Dublin, Ireland (670 miles), for a

Vivant-based disaster-tolerant, high-availability environment.

-- Backup Services

MTI will demonstrate LAN-free backup operations, leveraging the

DLTtape library built into the Vivant server and the Fibre

Channel-based SAN architecture to move all backup data across the

high-speed SAN and eliminating all backup traffic from standard

LANs.

MTI's Vivant V30 is aimed at high-end, high-availability data storage requirements in large enterprises. The Fibre Channel-based network storage systems in the Vivant family feature MTI's fault-tolerant, scalable technology that enables users to expand storage to multiple terabytes of data.

The systems offer concurrent host support for a variety of applications that require high bandwidth and maximum transfer rates such as large enterprise data warehousing, data mining and online transaction processing (OLTP) environments.

The V30 is configured with dual RAID Elements for companies running performance-hungry applications. Storage capacity in its multiple cabinet configurations can hold a maximum of 96 drives allocated between up to 45 different host systems using Fibre Channel switched connections.

The Vivant family will support a wide array of open systems operating environments including Hewlett-Packard HP-UX, IBM AIX, Linux, Microsoft Windows NT, Novell NetWare and Sun Solaris.
