Heinz, there are powerful groups in America (retirees, unions) whose interest lies in NOT falsifying inflation figures. Don't you think that they would be up in arms if in fact they believed the government is deliberately falsifying the figures? For that matter, don't you think that at least some main stream independent economists would sound the alarm?

My opinion is that actual inflation is still LESS than reported by the government. Maybe I am in the minority, but I believe that I pay considerably less today for the basket of goods and services I consume than I would have paid a few years back.
