Norton Deploys E-business Solution Using Jacada; 1,000 North American Distributors Gain Web Access, Jacada Delivers e-Business Solution for Back End Inventory, Order Processing ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 17, 2000--Atlanta-based Jacada Ltd. (NASDAQ:JCDA), today announced that Norton Company has successfully deployed an e-business solution for its Abrasives North American distributors using Jacada for Java, which permits secure Web access to the company's order status, tracking, inventory and invoicing applications. Jacada provides a complete software infrastructure to rapidly transform legacy systems into e-business solutions and to empower enterprise developers to build Internet applications. Norton Company is the world's leader in abrasives through its worldwide presence, brand awareness, responsiveness to customers, and technical expertise. From sandpaper to grinding wheels, Norton abrasives are used in manufacturing, in construction, and by consumers, wherever metal, glass, ceramics, wood and other materials must be cut, ground, sanded, sharpened or polished. The Worcester, Massachusetts based manufacturer has used Jacada to create a Java-based e-business solution, called Abrasive Connection, that provides electronic access to their legacy applications through the Web.
The new Jacada e-business solution provides Web access to Norton's order and stock availability data for 1,000 independent distributors located throughout North America. There is no charge to distributors to use the Abrasive Connection. The site is available using a password at www.abrasiveconnection.com
Norton's highly integrated e-business solution uses Jacada for Java to integrate information from two software applications, BPCS from System Software Associates and Macpac developed by Anderson Consulting. Norton has also added a new application feature that allows distributors to advertise excess inventory to other distributors at special pricing.
"Jacada strengthens our distribution channel and enhances our customer service by linking our existing host-centric systems to the Web, as well as providing new features such as our Distributor Mall to allow distributors to sell excess inventory," Ramesh Rajagopalan, e-business manager, Norton Company, said. "Distributors have real-time access through the Web to order processing and tracking, every aspect from their initial order to checking on manufacturing progress and tracking delivery as well as reviewing invoicing."
"In 1885, Norton led American industry in adopting new technology when it mass produced the world's first precision made grinding wheel," David Holmes, senior vice president, marketing, Jacada, said. "Now, more than 100 years later, as we enter the next century, it should come as no surprise that Norton continues to lead manufacturers in adopting and applying new technologies. We are extremely pleased to help support Norton's distributors and help Norton continue its high level of customer service that has secured Norton's number one position."
