I agree with your points that next generation will be less bleeding edge.

IMHO if they had gone to 32 bits instead of 16 bit busses RDRAM would have been a major winner.

200Mhz data rates (400Mhz when double pumped) would have been less of a manufacturing yield leap.

In addition where RDRAM does show a real advantage it is with dual channels ie with 840 and now willy.

Now RDRAM may succeed by mid next year if they are lucky.

But if it dies Intel will pay a BIG price.
