I went ahead and picked up a few NN March 40 calls for the heck of it.

Steve- I think it was you that asked me a month or two ago about a possible NN-ALA deal? At that time I believe I said that ALA publicly said they weren't interested. I'm not sure if I mentioned it on this thread, but apparently ALA is changing their answer to, "No comment."

As I think about it, a NN-ALA makes sense. An ATM Switching specialist with a huge installed based of Mainstreet switches in both North America and Europe makes sense to Alcatel. Who I kind of/sort of consider to be an access specialist. Those Mainstreet switches can be turned into mini-DSLAMs. Something ALA may be interested in. But they do overlap substantially in LMDS.

If they do join together, it may put downward pressure on ALA because few on Wall Street have long term confidence in NN. I don't happen to feel as negative about NN as most investors do, but NN does have a history of disappointing and failing to execute. NN has said they have a couple of big ATM machines coming out soon, and this may also interest ALA.

And in a maybe not so minor note, I believe being located so close to the Quebec border, there just may be a lot of French speaking personnel on NN's payroll. That has to be a big plus in a merger with a European player.

Oh well, just my quick $.02 and definitely in the FWIW category. -MikeM(From Florida)
