Amazon would be one of several companies on the Internet menu that Bell Atlantic Mobile customers get on their phones, the person said. Bell Atlantic Mobile users who use their phones to buy goods from Amazon would get a discount.

On Dec. 8, Amazon said its Web site will be accessible from Internet-ready phones sold by Sprint's wireless unit, Sprint PCS. The announcement was the first of its type, the companies said. At the time, Boston-based market researcher Yankee Group forecast that there will be 204 million Web-phone users worldwide by 2005.

Yesterday, Amazon announced a similar agreement with BCE's Bell Mobility unit.

As the price of wireless voice services declines, carriers are looking to boost minutes of use by offering new features such as Internet access and shopping. Electronic retailers want to widen their marketplace by opening storefronts on screens other than computer monitors.

Both New York-based Bell Atlantic and Seattle-based Amazon declined to comment.
