I just picked up my W2K upgrade edition from Office Depot for $179. Strangely enough, CompUSA was selling it for $219 just a couple of blocks away.

I think the advertised pricing was $219 for Win95 and Win98 users and $149 for NT users. It's a bit confusing because there is only one upgrade version. The pricing scheme gave me the impression that there were two different upgrade versions but that is not the case.

To arrive at the $149 upgrade price for NT users, there is a $70 mail-in rebate. Not sure NT users will be too thrilled with this.

At any rate as might be expected, the Office Depot workers were absolutey no help at all. They said and I quote "this is for NT only, it cannot be used with Windows 98". The store clerk told me she went to a seminar on W2K, so she knew what she was talking about. I told her just give it to me, I'll figure out how to upgrade my Win98 machine myself.

In actuality I plan on doing a clean install. Like all other MSFT software I imagine when installing the W2K upgrade, it will ask me to slip in the Win98 CD to verify. I hope it does not expect to find Win98 running on my machine.

I believe in MSFT, I own MSFT stock, so the least I can do is support my company and buy their products. C'mon all you other MSFT shareholders, go out and pick up your copy of W2K asap.

I'll post later on tonite from my W2K machine when it's up and running. If I don't post tonite, you can assume I am having problems but I hope that is not the case.

Remember folks, it's never too late to buy MSFT!!
