I have a question about the process of transferring my accounts from one broker to another. I am currently with Action Direct and I have never been happy with them. Recently their service has become even worse. After some research I have decided to move to Charles Schwab Canada.

The problem, which I am sure many of you have encountered, is the length of time it takes to complete the transfer. I have talked to both brokers and, apparently, there will be a significant time period (weeks) during which I will not be able to sell any of my holdings. I find this situation intolerable.

I would like suggestions from any who have been through this (painful) procedure. Is there any way to expedite the process? How long has this "frozen" period lasted for those of you who have been through it?

Thanks in advance to all and sundry.

Piper
