paul, Are you a geophysics? If so correct if I am wrong, but wasn't it the famous Lord Kelvin who tried to predict the age of the earth by how long it has cooled and how the temperature varies towards the earth's mantle. Unrelated to this is the yearly cooling of the surface layer that all of living in the northern climates know about, as one must dig a foundation deep enough to have a fairly constant ground temperature that is not to be influenced by the winter temperatures. In the borehole study they went a wee bit deeper,<VBG> and I am sure that they waited a while before recording the temperature. Seppo
