Lucent Technology is one of the "big guys" to which you refer and has been in FPGAs for several years. They have about a 5 year minimum headstart on Motorola and any of the Japanese or Koreans. Why am I telling you this? Lucent remains one of Xilinx's top 5 customers. I guess THEY see some value. My point is that anyone can make an FPGA-thingie. Not everyone can match Xilinx's density, performance, software, etc. - especially without violating patents out the you-know-what. Rgds, Lewis
