INTERNET SERIES: The Enablers

Standing between the router and the ever growing number of customers accessing the Internet is Redback Networks (NASDAQ:RBAK - news) . Redback makes a product that serves as a traffic cop between heavily trafficked subscriber lines and the Internet?s backbone, helping to prevent logjams in the system.

Because its Subscriber Management System (SMS) serves cable, DSL and wireless providers, Redback is, perhaps, the purest broadband play around today.

The company is projected to double share profits for the next two years. U.S. Bankcorp Piper Jaffray projects that Redback?s good standing with America Online (NYSE:AOL - news) positions the company to realize $400 million in revenue just from AOL, as its subscribers migrate to broadband connections over the next few years.
