MSB, just try to get a plumber to your house in So. CT. It's very hard just to get anyone to even give estimates on landscaping, building additions or repairs, etc. Many bank drive-thrus are closed because they can't find employees, and nobody is paid less than 175% of minimum wage with signing bonuses for counter help common. Just got a heating oil del'y $1.89/gal. Local YMCA family membership was $850 last year and is now $1,200. And the BLS will have you believe that housing costs rose at a significantly slower rate in '99 than they did in '98! No wonder the Fed has officially abandoned the CPI in favor of the chain-weighted price index in the PCE series (which increased at an annual rate of 2.5% in Q4 vs 1.8% in Q3).
