Viterbi's alledged remarks are, as Clark and I have pointed out on the serious thread, inconsistent with what we know about the man. Only someone who was technically ignorant would mistake data rate for file size, for example. I think the data rate must have been a journalist error (I've been interviewed several times and they NEVER get things right). As far as his unusual cockiness we saw in the article, I think that since he was all the way over in Israel and about to retire in a week, he thought, what the ****, I'm going to tell it like it is!
