This pricing policy is the best argument for breaking them up

The fact is that no one can compete with Microsoft. They are a monopoly. They can set the price as high as they want to and they are now doing it largely to make up for what they expect to be POOR REVENUES from Win2000. If they can't sell they raise the price. What choice do you have but to pay it?

It is a shame that people in the technology business are so stupid when it comes to economic history. Gates went to Harvard. All Gates did is apply the rules of 19th Century industrial development to computer technology. He was one up on the nerds that were working on their Altairs back in the 70's because he understood business. They just understood technology.

It's time to break up Microsoft into competing companies AND open source Windows source code.
