Of course. My husband works for the federal government and has that federal retirement plan. They have a stock fund, a bond fund, and a money market fund, and can allocate assets between them however they want. The stock fund is something like the S&P 500. So every federal employee, including those employed by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, has a vested interest in the stock market doing well. My husband says that they are going to add a foreign stock fund and a small-cap fund.
