SB,
Hi!!

RE: I suspect the profits from these investments won't really help Dell as they are not profits from operations. I believe these investment profits are shown under "other income". The Analysts are really interested in profits from operations. Let's not forget that Dell is still a computer company, not an investment company. JMO

Hey I fully realize this...I just know they are making a ton of money and they can do pretty much anything they want with money...Afterall, had DELL made a 10% stake in this company and it flopped I'm sure the critics would be grandstanding...
But, what I wish folks would imagine is what DELL can do with this software...Let's not forget that Chris Halligan (full page photo Fortune April 99) left DELL for Webmethods and he was the VP of Ecommerce at DELL...I've heard some very exciting possibilities...Afterall, E-commerce is only an estimated $7Trillion venture by 2004.. :o) Gotta wonder if DELL knows anything about E-commerce huh? :o)
And most certainly DELL can use the money for buying back some shares some time; building or leveraging another server facility; or throwing a Texas style barbecue for DELL shareholders..
:o)

Best, Kemble
