michael.

i wish frank was still on the board cuz he'd pro'ly have the answer. nevertheless, i previously did some digging on EXDS and came to the conclusion that switching isn't a trivial matter. for example, it's obviously in the host's interest to keep their swtiching (oops) costs high to minimize churn, as well as offering tempting specialized services (like bandwidth reporting, url monitoring, data collection services, caching) to lock-in recurring revs.

fwiw, this is from ML's Blodget, so fair warning: "We assume switching costs represent all start-up costs plus the cost of running a redundant operation for up to six months. In order to switch providers, a customer would have to incur the following: 1) a sales cycle of 85-90 days, 2) transfer of its domain name, 3) running parallel environments in order to avoid downtime, 4) lead time for hardware of 4-6 weeks and the cost of hardware, 5) a planning, network architecture and installation cycle of 3-6 months."

might wanna try your query on the EXDS board too.

hope this helps,
-chris.
