Dan- In the end it's Judge Jackson who decides not a popularity poll. I agree with you somewhat that it's just a little carrot that Bill is tossing out but I think they're beginning to worry about the stock price. End of last quarter they got it up to 120 on the basis of a settlement rumor and Win2000 going to manufacturing. It takes a whole lot to turn MSFT into a momo stock but they succeeded and everybodys year end performance looked ok. I don't see that happening again and some people are starting to sneak out the back door and place their bets elsewhere. As of today $120 billion of value has disappeared since yearend. Some of it is Bill's but the rest is a lot of peoples IRA's.

I've been telling the How High crowd that Microsoft is a mess. Good times hide a lot but when it gets a little rough all the baggage shows up pretty quick. They have so many pieces that no one knows what is going on. They may end up driving one of their own investments out of business with friendly fire because they didn't know it was one of theirs. The Register had a couple of stories this week. One about the ex-CFO who made an investment in the Fiber company and then quit to head it up. Another about the British Cable Company that took Microsoft investment money and turned around and gave the business to Liberate. Makes you wonder what AT&T is thinking.
