Socket is developing a Bluetooth transceiver plug-in card for devices such as handheld computers that have a CompactFlash or PC Card slot. This card will enable the device to communicate cordlessly with other Bluetooth enabled devices, such as cell phones, that are within about 30 feet. Thus a handheld user will be able to reach the Internet through their cell phone while the phone is on but in a nearby pocket or briefcase, replacing the tethered
connection that would be used today, synchronization with your desktop can be done cordlessly if Bluetooth is added to the desktop, and handheld computer users will be able to
send each other messages or play interactive games on a cordless personal area network.

In connection with its development program, Socket is engaging a team of leading providers of devices that can be Bluetooth enabled , with Hewlett-Packard representing the
handheld computers category, to insure that these devices work well with Socket's card. The technology is designed to work with all vendors in this category. Delivery is scheduled for the second half of 2000. Socket will own the intellectual property rights for its plug-in card, subject to underlying licenses for Bluetooth chips and a Bluetooth
software stack.

CSR will supply Socket with Bluetooth chips. Their chips will be incorporated into Socket's
plug-in Bluetooth cards.

We expect that Bluetooth will expand over the next several years to enable many devices to communicate cordlessly. Bill Gates has expressed his vision of the handheld computer as a
central information and control device in areas such as the home. Bluetooth technology along with other connection technologies are capable of making this vision a reality, and we expect our connection products to incorporate Bluetooth wherever it makes sense.

Thanks for your continued support for Socket Communications.

Best regards,

Dave Dunlap, CFO
