JC - the Santana part was unbelievably loud - or maybe I just have not attended enough rock concerts recently... the rest of that "squares" exactly with my impression.

I don't know what benchmarks they think are "suspect" - it has long been known that a partitionable database can yield arbitrarily large TPC-C numbers, it just becomes a matter of how much hardware the vendor wants to throw at it. That's one of the reasons that benchmark is being retired. But at least by the rules of that game, they won. For a technologist, the exact same effect could have been produced by announcing a partitionable database. The rest could have been extrapolated by anyone who knows the dynamics of the test, including the cost per transaction.
