Paul, thread, Microsoft has posted some big iron sized benchmark numbers on one of their sites, that shows them blowing away Sun in price/performance, with Microsoft's benchmark machines using W2000. The Compaq ProLiants Microsoft used are all Intel Xeon based, 96 of them (Xeons) in this case. Microsoft getting pretty pushy? Pushier? Gee, maybe Microsoft will be sharing in some of the heavy lifting re benchmarking from now on. Take the good news from whomever wants to spend the money, and the time! Microsoft has a lotta money!

Windows 2000 and SQL Server running on a 12-node cluster of Compaq ProLiant 8500s, with
a total of 96 processors, delivered the top score of 227,079.15 tpmC with a total system
cost of $4,341,603 for a price performance rating of $19.12 per tpmC (available 8/1/00).
Sun's best score, using a 4-node cluster of E6500s, also with a total of 96 processors,
delivered a score of 135,461 tpmC with a total system cost of $13,153,324 for a price
performance rating of $97.10 per tpmC (available 1/31/00).
Not only did the Windows 2000/SQL Server/Compaq solution provide better overall
performance, but the solution cost was less than one third the price of the Sun solution.
