Well you are misinformed. No serious critic makes that charge. You see, Senator Gore was a Democrat. The president and secretary of defense were republicans. Senator Gore had been defeated in a dirty election and was totally out of office and had only influence with Nixon. You would have me believe that Nixon would have protected Al Gore? Absurd. If you are a conspiracy theorist, find out why George W. Bush didn't go to war. One theory I've heard, and do in part believe, is that he was a coward who did everything he could to stay out of the war. We'll hear a great deal more about this if it is Bush-Gore. Gore I believe was willing to join the Army and serve in Vietnam not only out of patriotism, but out of a reasoned knowledge that if he was to be president that it would be good to serve and have a non-killer military history. McCain, of course, was apparently willing to kill innocent North Vietnamese children ("gooks" as he calls them) in the line of duty. I suspect Bradley never even thought of being president, and, like a sensible rich man joined the reserves and stayed out of harm's way. But Bush --- that ambitious father worshipping satanist -- wanted to be president but wanted to live long enough to enjoy the perquisites of office. I've always wondered how Bush, Gore, and Bradley would have survived the challenge of being a prisoner in NVN for five and one half years as John McCain did. I think it made McCain a greater man. I suspect it would have done the same for the other ones -- or killed them. Too bad they didn't have the chance to find out. I have always believed that the post of commander-in-chief should go to one who has served in the military courageously, intelligently, and loyally. I will always vote for a combat veteran if given the chance. I don't hate draft dodgers, but it seems a shame that one should get a chance to command. |
