And there are so many more women like her who paved the way and made things possible, the ones about whom we don't hear! Even in the late seventies, it was difficult for a woman who wanted to be a securities analyst covering "guy" industries such as the basics. The natural tendency was to assign women to health care, retailers, and cosmetics and personal care.

Oil rigs, paper mills, smelting facilities were subtly deemed "unsuitable" for women. There were even superstitions about coal mines and women, the way there used to be about women on ships....
