There must be something more compelling with the PEM approach, maybe it appeals to the independent desires we all have. Generating you own power has a great appeal to me

I agree with your comments and target markets. However I would add utilities. Utilities will most likely implement the fuel cells for the intended clients. It will be a means of decentralizing some of the power generation. This will reduce transmission losses and in some cases the need to construct new transmission lines in remote areas.

As for the independent desires I see them mostly as dreams. I believe there will be a select few that chose to generate their own power. What do you gain? Reliability? I doubt it. Most utility power is reliable. Maintaining your own power generation system requires maintenance too. What is your time worth? You will still have down time..the only difference being you have to blame yourself instead of one of those awful utilities.

In my case I am not willing to donate garage space or back yard space to a power generation unit.

And you have not really severed the link. The fuel cell still needs an energy source. You substitute one utility for another. What if the hydrogen truck can not deliver gas? For energy independence you should consider solar cells...when the cost comes down.

I believe FCL is positioned in a potentially profitable market..not one built of dreams. FCL wins two ways. It can produce electricity from a variety of energy sources (most likely natural gas...a source with an existing infrastructure) with higher efficiency than many competing technologies. It has the added benefit of producing the electricity with less pollution.
