David and Thread,

I am reading through the '98 annual report. That is, I downloaded the sanitized PDF version from the website. It is clearer now that IM is very diversified and not only provides warehouse and logisitcal services, but also inventory management, financing, compilation/configuration/packaging of various synergistic product lines for small business and "white box" built-to-order systems.

I am interested in the breadth of their distrubution centers. The amount of debt they are carrying seems to be proportional to their immense world-wide infrastructure. I agree with others comments that the gain on the SoftBank investment is a great way to service their debt. It is a real plus for them.

Finally, I wanted to know if anyone on the this thread has done much in the way of Internet-assisted purchases. I figure I spent about $3000.00 on the Internet last year including 2 digital cameras, a laptop, a Casio handheld PC, an mp3 player, about a dozen SanDisk CompactFlash cards and a box full of Epson inkjet supplies. The funny thing is that none of the Internet storefronts deliver product in a single package. For every single order I have placed on Onvia.com or Buy.com I have received 2 or 3 UPS/USPS/FedEx deliveries. These deliveries appear to originate from various warehouses all around the USA. Ingram Micro's infrastructure investments seem put them in an enviable position of delivering a valuable service to any number of Internet "e-commerce" sites.

Does anybody know if they also do their own package delivery like Corporate Express? Are there arrangements with UPS/FedEx for the logisitics?
