NiceGuy, I had a talk with Schwab this morning (I finally got through) about the issue in question. They explained that the options agreement that I signed for my accounts contained a box to check giving Schwab authorization to exercise in the money options on my behalf, in lieu of specific instructions and that Schwab would make a good faith effort to do so. Depending on the maintenance requirements of my account, those shares would be sold at the open on the next trading day if needed to keep my account current or held in my account awaiting further instructions should no margin issues apply. The last time I can issue instructions or close out the position prior to expiration is 5:15 EST Friday. Hope this helps.
