Well it seems things are pretty well wrapped up in here. With maybe an exception, it appears the brush fires and pathological behavior patterns have been taken care of for the time being.
As such, view the following with your own experience here in mind...but try to understand the background matrix though which you see the world...there can be different perspectives.
It was real clear to me when Q started to take off that we would begin to attract unwanted attention. Once it came, the results were predictable: the preoccupation with daily price movements, the lack of understanding of what QCOM really means for the future, the hand wringing, and the dumping or buying of shares in panic...all replacing the intellectual commentary and friendly banter of people who were pioneers in this field (by way of working at Q or by finding Q as a serious investment vehicle long before it became popular).
Not to say the intellectual banter disappeared...it didn't...but it was just much harder to find.
As I watched, the thread fell apart with the arrival of a new group with totally different perspectives and attitudes. I sometimes wondered which was worse...the thugs who brought prostitutes to our gold fields or the egomaniacs who insulted those who didn't fit into the previous mold.
As people seemed to be replacing their own real lives with electrons on a computer monitor as their wealth increased dramatically, they took things here way too seriously. They would criticize people they didn't like, but turned a blind eye when their buddies behaved in the same way...or worse. Profanity often replaced civilized commentary. Regardless of one's position, profanity always demeans the place and the message. It was a sure sign of frustration. Some even failed to understand the meaning of a handshake and continued to exist on the elementary school playground. The yard duty lady blew the whistle, but the silliness still went on.
With financial success going all around, everyone it seemed wanted to claim the golden crown in their own way...with notable exceptions like Maurice who were always willing to help anyone understand without making them feel stupid for asking. Unfortunately, people who misunderstood that, for what ever reason, failed to appreciate the treasures being offered...and lost.
Instant success of the new comers and the abandonment of the thread by the old timers has been a horrible statement about what success, money and ego can cause.
Remember your journal. Remember and learn.
