I don't doubt that there has been narrowing in the past, but has it been to this extreme, where the top 100 SPX companies make up more than 80% of the total market cap?

I don't mind a bear market at all, but I don't want a crash like the Nikkei, where the market totally rolled over on it's back for more than a decade; as long as volatility continues to be high, I will be quite satisfied.
