Hhehe. I'm not sure if right now DSL will crush cable modems. I've currently used a cable modem for over a year at my gf's house. I've used DSL for almost 2 months at my apartment.
It's going to take time for DSL to overtake cable, if it ever does. When DSL has a problem, you ain't going to get fixed for a long time. When cable has a problem, your cable modem will be back up a lot sooner than your DSL modem.
When I got Cablevision's cable modem installed, there were no problems at all. I was up and running after the installation. When I got DSL installed, I didn't get the actual DSL working until more than 2 weeks after I had it installed cause of some problem on Bell Atlantic's end. And as of today, my DSL has been down since Monday, so that makes it 6 days so far. Bell Atlantic knows that my local DSL switch is down, but they haven't fixed it yet.
Honestly, with all the problems so far with DSL, I wish Time Warner had its Road Runner cable modem service in my area, otherwise I wouldn't have gotten DSL.
Oh yeah for those interested, the cable modem I have at my gf's house is the 3COM US Robotics Cable Modem CMX which rocks big time. Hardly has problem with noise on the cable line, and never goes down at all. The DSL modem I have is the WSTL external modem which is superb. It's the Bell Atlantic InfoSpeed DSL that is having problems.
