Natick store visit, yesterday during the snow storm.

Merchandise is restocked; and display improved. Customers are couples, but mostly window shopping. Traffic improved slightly. It will take more to rebuild traffic by displaying hot products more prominently. Old employees were hired back. More employees were at the jewelry and electronics; but total number still less than 25, not that they needed more. Employees are friendly. Scratch and dent clearance are all personal cd players, which were probably X'mas returns.

Sign at pick up counter has it that Service Merchandise is lower in price than anyone else.

In general, after many month of neglect in displays and lack of help(employees), Some major efforts to improve store performance is on the way. As usual, Bettina Whyte did not do a thorough job. She only did the patch up job with the banks' loans by closing 100 stores. Rebuilding stores, means merchandising the hot products, and will take some market research with the vendors. Hot products are easily studied on Home shopping network. Door busters must alternate with local competition.

We have to be patient for quite a while yet.
