AMES bargains by the bagful, continues to be attractive.

Store visit last Tuesday was interesting. Well stocked, and bright. Floor was waxed but scuffed; so, it is still clean. Employees were friendly at checkout. Bargains on clearance prices throughout the store. Apparels were especially priced to move with additional 50% off. Limited upscaling helped in fast merchandise turn around. "You don't buy it, it is gone." creating availability rush to help customers stock up.

News on stores planned in year 2000, still needed more planning to grow double digit. $680 million revolving loans is indeed inadequate. Since each new store require $1-1.5 million merchandise inventory investment. Caldor is still in chapter 7; many store leases are for sale. But they will not be cheap.
