I've just switched from Waterhouse to Schwab, though I have to wait for the account to move (RRSP).

Once the transfer is complete, would you please post how long it took? I am about to initiate my move from Action Direct to Schwab.

.. having my account in cash would not expedite the transfer.

That would be true if you simply have the brokers do the transfer. However, you can wire the money from one account to the other for a small fee. What I am investigating now is how to do this with my RRSP accounts. I do not want it to appear (to Revenue Canada) like I am withdrawing cash from my RRSP, as I then would have to pay tax. However, it should be possible to do a wire transfer directly from my AD RRSP account to my Schwab RRSP account.
