Eric, I agree-- 3COM certainly has a nifty product. I was torn between the Palm and the WinCE devices but opted for the latter, as an "interim" product while I wait for some changes in either the Palm or WinCE platform.
What I liked about the palm was, well, everything you note. Not to mention its compact size. The only sticking point was the lack of an expansion slot. The cheap Philips Nino I ended up with ($139 in tax free New Hampshire) has 8MB and an expansion slot. This also synchs with Outlook though (like so many MSFT products) there's a bug in the software that came with the product, a separate sync program can be downloaded free from their site.
What I'm waiting for is either a) A more compact WinCE device or b) A Palm with expansion capabilities
Until then, the Nino will have to do for me (BTW, it also came with an attachable modem, though not wireless)
I have heard, a la Palm VII, that Casio will be introducing a wireless Palm PC later this year with 32 MB.
Did you compare the Handspring devices? They seem a bit less expensive, and do have expansion slots: handspring.com
And, avantgo is a terrific site. CNET has a list of good downloads as well: download.cnet.com
Finally, handheldmed has good medical downloads, if that's an interest, (and, uw, there's a comparison of palm pc's and palmpilot link there as well) handheldmed.com
Enjoy your Palmpilot! nosmo |
