Sorry for the confusion. By "logon", I meant access web pages using the service.

Motorola modem.
Sometimes the middle light goes off. This is usually when the node is down. They usually say a router is out or something, pretty vague. Other times, all lights are green, but the service just hangs and eventually you get an error accessing web page message. Sometimes, it also just runs so slow that simple pages take forever to load. There is nothing wrong with my system or premises as the service downtime is not limited to just me when I call. Usually, whole area. Also, when working, I have sometimes gotten lightning fast speeds.

Basically, the JAVA program is a stand alone application. It is pretty simple in that it calls the ping.exe and logs to an Access database whenever all 4 test packets come back with "Request timed out". Support gave me the IP addresses of the gateway server and the Proxy. I usually use the proxy as that is where traffic usually dies. Support, if memory serves, told me it should be 10-40 ms if ping successful. During busy times, i.e. when most people have the time to use it, it is much slower like 100-400ms. The IDE is JBUilder. I don't use it because it just isn't worth my time. I was going to leave the computer running 24 hrs. and request credits at the end of each month for downtime, but I just decided to get netzero instead and quit the service for DSL if not fixed.

I believe the cable company is TCI.

Single family dwelling. They have not once had a problem with my particular residence or modem. The service always comes back up eventually once they have fixed the problem. Sometimes minutes, sometimes days.

One more note. My area is known trouble spot, support joked with me about several others around the country. It is so funny that in the beginning I asked them what normal downtime was and they replied that it should be 100% up. That was the best joke I heard in years.
