"Some of the scariest extremist *believers* are the environmental zealots who don't blink an eye when they maim a logger by spiking a tree."

I know you believe this, Michael, but everything I have ever read about tree spiking includes the statement that spiked trees are clearly marked, and that the environmentalists do this as a deterrent AGAINST the destruction of old growth trees, not as a sadistic thrill to maim loggers.

And what about the moral questions loggers might face if they were not on automatic pilot? Is it good to log old growth trees indiscriminately when species are destroyed as the result and the planet's health is threatened? Is the profit motive more important than general well being in the human population? Does the logger sell himself short or act in an irrational way when he seems to believe that he is not capable of supporting himself without killing trees?
