JFD, even if MSFT did open up the source code, I don't think that would be good enough for the DOJ. Somehow I get the feeling that the DOJ would say you need to show everyone how to use it too.

Can you imagine if we had 5 different versions of Windows out there? I'd bet that when things went wrong with the 4 Windows wanna be imitations, they're customers would be calling MSFT tech support for help. Could you imagine what a nightmare that would be?? The DOJ would then cite MSFT for not helping they're competitors once again.

Somehow I don't see how this case is going to be resolved unless the DOJ backs down from their unrealistic settlement position. This case will not be settled anytime soon IMO but I hope I am wrong.

Assuming this case drags on into the next presidential administration, what are the chances that the next pres. could shoot down this case?? Secondly, assuming he could shoot it down, would he want to considering it was started under the Clinton administration?
