Christine, I have definitely gone to bed by the time you read this, but you raised an interesting point and I wanted to respond while the thought was fresh.
First -- I believe Mr Christine and I could discuss the Irish over a couple of pints without shillelaghs being drawn. No doubt I would become sullen and resentful when the evening reached the singing stage.
As for MT lacking womanly energy, how would you rate other recent female heads of state -- in India, Pakistan, Israel, Turkey, Norway, Ireland and the Philippines? I should double check a couple of these but we've both admitted it's late.
Anyone else who might want to comment is welcome.
As for safe subjects, the WWF is out. I love the sport of wrestling. The other stuff is a freak show -- I like the idea of heroes (there are plenty in all walks of life, in peace as well as war) but bombastic hyper-macho types are emblematic of a popular culture that I seem to like less each day.
Republican (and Democratic) presidential politics are too dreary for words. I see no one among the usual suspects, worthy of the job.
I am quite excited politically by a house race in Texas, though. I am doing all I can to help an oldest and dearest friend win a seat. Don't remember if I'm Senior Policy Advisor or Senior Political Advisor -- if we get to Washington, I'm definitely holding out for a corner office.
Goodnight again,
Mike |
