I still say, If McCaw bought Iridium at $00.00, his expenses would still be much more than $0.05 per minute of use. When he first announced his interest in buying Iridium, it sounded like a quickly done deal, like January. Now he and others are giving Mot additional $Ms to keep the system barely alive until he can make up his mind. I suspect his quick look found some polecats in the woodpile and it's not an easy decision for him. I also suspect bandwidth is THE issue. He has probably asked the question, "Does bandwidth ownership come with the deal?" The answer at first thought would be an easy "Yes!" But not so fast! Many buyers of a company have been stung when after buying a company only to find out in the fine print that the trade name, the distribution chain, etc...etc.. was not part of the deal. The question is not easy to answer from a regulator (read the gov) point of view. The license is for Iridium. What happens to the spectrum if (when) Iridium is abandoned? I think in the past similar situations, the spectrum goes back on the auction block.
