lee - i'm looking for a backup to watley, and will likely go with mb or cyber...

i have an account with e-trade, and i've let it go from platinum status for my position trading to no trading...i'm not sure how fast you want your information, but the high-end trader screen, for instance, does NOT use java to update when a trade goes through. you have to redraw the screen, etc.

because it's web based, it also is slower than direct access traders. and i'm sure you've heard of their crashes, etc.

having said that, from my experiences, it's better than most of the other 'name' brokers (the schwabs, etc.). they do have stops on all systems, which are reasonably good; expect some slippage on super fast stocks, however. be sure that if you're looking to exit a trade, it does *not* have to be this second, but can be a little later.

portfolios - the cash used is updated intra-day, but isn't 100% accurate. your trading portfolio is updated, but not the instant it happens (within a minute or 2).

good luck - bob gaj
