I am incapable of acting on a counterfactual. I recently refused on the stand to consider a hypothetical that was untrue -- the plaintiff's lawyer objected to his own question, and the judge asked me if I would answer the question. I said I couldn't -- that I was affirmed to tell the truth and the hypothetical was counterfactual. The judge told the lawyer to move on.
