Actually I've been a republican all of my voting life (which stretches back considerably more than yours).

But McCain really is the party's only chance.

They will almost certainly lose control of the house, and when all of the shooting is done Bush loses to Gore.

Bush is not ready for prime time, and people are starting to see it. Combine that with some poor decision-making (Bob Jones, pandering to religious right), and the democrats and independents will turn out in droves to vote against him.
