U.S. Robotics Combines Two x2 Channels for

Twice the Throughput -

First Ever SOHO Product to Harness Power of Two Analog Lines

Worldwide remote access leader U.S. Robotics (NASDAQ:USRX) today announced a unique SOHO router that will allow users to download information at uncompressed speeds of up to 112 Kbps over regular analog telephone lines (up to 450 Kbps with compression). No other company today offers a similar product in the small- to mid-size router market. LANLinker Dual Analog is the third in a series of low-cost, full-featured routers that extend LAN connectivity from the Internet and corporate networks to remote offices and/or home-based telecommuters. LANLinker Dual Analog will debut at Networld+Interop, Booth no. 2453.

LANLinker Dual Analog integrates two U.S. Robotics x2(TM) modems in one feature-rich, high-performance enclosed unit, giving users unparalleled speed and routing functionality over regular analog phone lines. x2 is U.S. Robotics' revolutionary technology that allows information to be received at nearly twice the speed of standard V.34 modems. LANLinker Dual Analog allows users to access information at near-ISDN speed without the costs associated with installing and maintaining digital lines. No other product on the market today offers similar speed and capabilities.

LANLinker Dual Analog also allows simultaneous x2 connections to two different locations; users can be connected to the Internet and a remote network at the same time.

"No other company combines 56 Kbps technology and routing functionality to offer SOHO users an effective way to access information when they need it. Because of U.S. Robotics' expertise in the remote access market and our ability to bring new products to the market quickly, we can give our customers what they're looking for now," said Bob Rainone, vice president and general manager, U.S. Robotics' Business Access Unit.

"In the past, users could only select SOHO routers with ISDN or frame relay connectivity. Both services typically carry higher monthly tariffs than analog service, and are not available everywhere. With the LANLinker family of products, customers can now choose between ISDN, frame relay or analog connectivity to implement the most cost-effective solution based on availability and their local telephone company tariff structure."

LANLinker Easy to Install; Includes Web-based Configuration

LANLinker installation is quick and easy. Users need only plug the unit into existing analog lines and into the LAN or individual computer to install the unit.

Each LANLinker unit features easy set-up, allowing the unit to be configured via LANLinker's HTML web-based configuration or a Windows-based Wizard. Customers don't have to be technical experts to have the unit up and running in under an hour. LANLinker also features STAC, Microsoft(R) and Ascend compression; PAP, CHAP and RADIUS security; LAN-to-LAN spoofing; Flash ROM for future software upgrades; and Access Manager, a GUI-based remote management and configuration tool.

U.S. Robotics' LANLinker Dual Analog is the latest in a line of small- to mid-range routers that offer users a full-featured SOHO router at one low price. LANLinker BRI offers users access to the corporate network and the Internet over an ISDN connection; LANLinker 56 allows access over a Frame Relay or dedicated PPP connection. Each version of LANLinker features multi-protocol support, including IP, IPX and Appletalk. There are no hidden or "a la carte" charges for additional routing or management features because everything needed is included.
