Hello Scumbria,
I became an AMD long in mid summer 1999. I discovered the SI board shortly after that. It became obvious to me that Paul "Athwipe" Engle seems to enjoy his irrational pounding on any information/thoughts/hopes of the AMDroids.
In particular "Athwipe" Engle really enjoys stomping forward looking thoughts AFTER enough time has elapsed to show those thoughts wrong. He then loves to ridicule others with his great hindsight.
Apparently you must have posted your beliefs that the K7 would/might be released in June of 1999, as I see "Athwipe" Engle still trying to discredit you on this matter. I don't have any idea what made you think a June 1999 release was possible but you may have been closer to the truth than "Athwipe" Engle would like to admit.
As you may remember from my earlier post, I recently built my first computer and of course its processor was the "S M O O T H" Athlon 700 MHz. At the time I ordered my parts, I ordered enough to assemble three systems. Each Athlon comes with a series of numbers/letters printed on its case, a part of those numbers tells what year and week the processor was manufactured.
I was absolutely amazed to find that all three of my Athlon 700 MHz processors were manufactured in the FIRST week of March (week 9) of 1999!!! That meant to me that Jerry had the processors and quietly put them in his closet to be sold after the release of the 700's in November 1999.
It is only a matter of speculation of how many other Athlons of this speed grade and higher Jerry was accumulating, but it is a fact that 700's were being manufactured in March of 1999!
That there was no June 1999 release of the Athlon was probably due to lack motherboards, but this is speculation on my part. The fact remains that by June 1999 Athlons were being produced and yielding at least 700 MHz. It seems to me that your June 1999 Athlon release was possible so far as availability of processors was concerned.
If Jerry was able to produce 700 MHz Athlons in March of 1999, what speeds were being stuffed in the closet by June 1999? By October 1999? (wasn't that the month of *nHel's infamous "October Surprise"?)
What speeds are the Athlons Jerry is currently stuffing in the closet for later release? What speed grades are being stuffed into Jerry's Dresden closet at this very moment? Gee, its no wonder so many OEMs like to deal with Jerry, he actually has the product before he releases it, what a great way to run a business!
BTW #1: In in early November 1999, I talked to a fellow who at that time had a 850 MHz copper Athlon from Dresden in his shop.
BTW #2: All three systems I've built are running flawlessly, each is very FAST, and each is so S M O O T H in operation!!! None has had any problems with stability or anything else. None whatsoever. I think M. Dell is losing his edge and missing out on a lot of business by not taking on the Athlon line.
BTW #3: Since I have become an AMD long "Droid", I have been amazed at the holes that "Athwipe" Engles's favorite company has left in marketplace. Jerry and his boys have been and are currently driving semi truck loads of Athlons through those holes. It just may not be possible to ever seal those holes again. I think it has something to do with NiceGuy767's "New Paradigm Shift". From where I stand, I see a tremendous support both in the infrastructure and in the marketplace for AMD's products, and the ground swell has just begun. The best is yet to come!!!
Kindest regards, CrazyMan |
